Reported Speech (2)

A.  Kata Kerja (Verb)

  • Direct : Fifin said, ‘Wonogiri is beautiful’.
  • Reported : Fifin said that Wonogiri is beautiful.

( Sampai saat ini Wonogiri tetap indah)

Bandingkan dengan :

  • Direct : Fifin said, ‘Wonogiri is beautiful’.
  • Reported : Fifin said that Wonogiri was beautiful

  • Meisya told me that you were ill. (bukan ‘Meisya said me)
  • What did you tell her? (bukan ‘say her’)

Jika kalimat tidak menggunakan ‘obyek’, gunakan ‘say’:

  • Meisya said that you were ill. (bukan ‘Meisya told that’)
  • What did you say?

Namun, kita bisa mengatakan ‘say…to  somebody’:

  • Mona said goodbye to me. (bukan ‘Mona said me goodbye’)
  • What did you say to her?

C.  Tell/ Ask somebody to do something

Gunakan ‘infinitive’ (to do/ to stay/ to… etc) pada kalimat tak langsung dengan kata kerja tell & ask yang bermaksud menyuruh.

  • Direct : ‘Open the box. ‘ father said to me.
  • Reported : Father told me to open the box.
  • Direct : ‘Don’t make noise.’ Mr. Jo said to us.
  • Reported : Mr. Jo told us not to make noise.
  • Direct : ‘Please help me.’ Novi said to me.
  • Reported : Novi asked me to help her.
